On their bikes

Monmouth is being put well and truly on the map thanks to Wooden Spoon, the charity of British and Irish rugby, which has identified the town as one of the key points along the route of the Wooden Spoon End 2 End Challenge.

The event is one of several fundraising initiatives - the Spoon Challenges - which the charity is staging this year to celebrate its Silver Jubilee.

Over eight days - between Saturday, August 23 and Saturday, August 30 - 30 cyclists will saddle up for the 882 mile marathon ride from John O'Groats to Lands End, each bidding to raise £2,500 in aid of mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children, young people and their families.

This is the first time the End 2 End Challenge has been staged since 10 reasonably fit, but very enthusiastic, individuals took to the roads back in 2000.

For more information contact the Spoon Challenges Office on 01889 582889 or e-mail spoonchallenges@eventsunlimited.co.uk.
