A chef's table with direct video link through to the kitchen is the piece de resistance at a thrilling new restaurant at the exclusive five star Celtic Manor Resort, Newport.

A plasma screen, at the head of the table for 10 in an annexe off the main eating area, gives guests at the new fine dining restaurant, The Crown at Celtic Manor, an unique insight into the intricacies of meal preparation in the kitchen.

The new restaurant marks the forging of a special link between Wales' top hotel with one of Wales' premier restaurants, the Michelin star Crown at Whitebrook, near Monmouth.

Executive chef James Sommerin, whose dextrous culinary skills will be among those on screen for the chef's table diners, has extended his expertise by taking overall charge of the kitchens at both restaurants.

James has been appointed executive chef for both establishments. James will maintain his hands on approach at Whitebrook. At The Celtic Manor an exciting new head chef, Tim McDougall, has been appointed.

General manager at The Crown, David Hennigan, who has worked extensively in Michelin star and Bib Gourmand establishments during his career, will oversee front of house operations at the two restaurants.

He said: "By introducing the direct video link we hope to be able to bring our discerning guests as close as possible to how their food is made."

The Crown at Whitebrook director, Jonathan Davies, said: "There was a real buzz about the place in the lead up to the opening of The Crown at Celtic Manor which is a stunning addition to culinary excellence in Wales."

The paintings hanging in the new restaurant are supplied by the Denise Yapp Gallery, Whitebrook, which will also be showcasing more artwork in the retail mall at The Celtic Manor Resort.
